Organizing products can look appealing, but they become cluttered if you buy too many. “Resist the urge to buy one-off organizing products, such as a single basket or a random bin,” says Breanne Hawes from EQ Design, “Instead, analyze and organize a whole space at once, so you can buy matching products that comfortably fit your space and items.” 

I’m talking about all those tempting bins and baskets on sale at the Marshall’s and Home Goods of the world. Here are some things to think about before buying an organizing product:

  • Will it properly hold the items I intend to store in it? I.e. washable if holding items that can leak, etc.

  • Will it fit on the shelf/in the cabinet/in the drawer where I intend to put it?

  • Does it fit the aesthetic of the space its going in? If not, it may add to the physical and visual clutter you are trying to combat.
